Defense against the Dark Arts

We teach two very different computer security courses in our undergraduate and graduate curricula.  The undergraduate course is basic -- principles of security, creating a security plan and a recovery/action plan, security concepts.  These are things someone just entering the field professionally should know.  The graduate course, however, takes an entirely different approach, a very aggressive approach.

Cisco Academy

Saint Xavier University has been designated by Cisco Systems as a networking academy to prepare students for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) examination. The CCNA curriculum provides students with a sound foundation in the increasingly important areas of networking and internetworking. SXU has made the curriculum of the Cisco Academy program available for students in computer studies and computer science. The program is also available for qualified students from other majors who want to enhance their degree programs.

The curriculum of the Cisco Academy program is offered as four 3-credit hour courses. In addition to preparing students to take the CCNA exam for certification, the courses may be applied toward the computer science and computer studies majors, the computer science minor, or as free elective courses.

Cisco Academy Program Curriculum at SXU (12 credit hours):

CMPSC 255 Fundamentals of Computer Networking (3)
CMPSC 266 Networks Routing and Configuration (3)
CMPSC 267 Routing and Switching Protocols (3)
CMPSC 268 WAN Technologies (3)
