ThoughtWorks

I work as a developer on a team which includes developers, quality assurance analysts, and business analysts, as well as a project manager and a developer tech lead, for a total of about a dozen. Since I work for a consulting firm, when this project ends I will go to a new project and a new team, which may be smaller or larger. On this project we're working primarily in Java; on a previous project we worked primarily in Ruby, Rails, and Javascript; it depends on the best way to solve the problem for the client. A large part of my job is to constantly learn more, and to coach and help the client developers learn more about development and technical best practices like version control, continuous integration and continuous deployment, and non-waterfall practices like card estimation for units of work and pair programming/ pair rotation.

Claire's Boutiques, Inc. Global Headquarters  *  Database

As a member of the Development team at Claire's, I have many facets to my job. I support the 17 servers that make up the Lotus Domino and IBM Sametime systems at Claire's. These servers include Email, Applications, Sametime chat, Traveler and BES servers just to name a few. When the Support team cannot solve an issue it is escalated to me, if it relates to my system. Claire’s is a multiple platform environment, so I could be working on a Windows XP, W7, or Mac at any point in my day. In addition to the email system, the mobile devices used by Claire's employees are connected to servers that I maintain. We have Blackberry, Android, and iOS devices in use by company personnel. I recently completed an online course on Lotus Script and am now just beginning to write scripts. We have many agents already in the system. These agents perform work in the background and off-hours. It is my responsibility to maintain these scripts.I also get to work on many projects throughout the year. The projects are always related to Lotus Domino in some way, but many involve collaboration with others on my team or another Claire's location like our offices in the United Kingdom or Hong Kong.
