Tournament Invites
Tip Of The Day

Poor Capablanca! Thou wert a brilliant technician, but no philosopher. Thou wert not capable of believing that in chess, another style could be victorious than the absolutely correct one. -- Max Euwe

LADDER CHALLENGES

A note about ladder challenges: Once a challenge has been made and accepted, the two players arrange the playing mode (face-to-face or real-time via the server), time, and place (appropriate to the mode). After the match, both players should report the result to Dr. Aman. It is NOT necessary for anyone else to be present at the match itself.

LADDER TOURNAMENT

The club's Ladder Tournament is now underway. There has already been one change in the standings as the result of a challenge match.

Rules are posted on the Chess Club website at csmaster.sxu.edu/chessclub. From the nav links below the banner, select Rules.

ANY member of the club can participate in this ladder. It's a perpetual tournament. Just send an email to Dr. Aman (aman@sxu.edu) indicating your desire to be on the ladder. About 24 hours later, check the Ladder page to determine whom you can challenge in your climb to the top.

About This Chess Server
This free chess server has been established to encourage students, faculty, and staff at Saint Xavier University in Chicago and St. Charles Prep in Columbus (OH). Register using the button at the top right of the screen.

If your login name or email address doesn't tell me who you are, then send a separate email address to aman@sxu.edu and identify yourself. Membership requests are screened as a step to promoting online safety. If you aren't part of the SXU or St. Charles community, you will have to communicate with me independently to gain access.

One caution about AOL email accounts: They don't seem to accept messages automatically generated by this chess server. If you register using an AOL email address, you may not receive your initial password nor be able to recover it.

Have fun!

Thanks! -- Jim Aman
